SSL certificates and online security
Security is a major issue for any website but particularly so for websites
dealing with online transactions and sensitive customer data. Most of the
security with your online shop takes place behind the scenes without you needing
to intervene. That doesn't mean however you don't get total control over
security and protection of your online shop!
- Full SSL support through SSL certificates. SSL or Secure Socket Layer is the means
in which sensitive data such as credit card information is passed from page to
page. It's an encryption level 128 bits strong (the same used by banks and the
military) so you and your customers can be assured of the very highest security
and protection. SSL is provided through what's known as an SSL Certificate which we provide you as part of the service.
- Encrypted customer data. Data is encrypted and then stored
in your shop's database. In the unlikely event your database is compromised, the
most a hacker could hope to get their hands on is a bunch of encrypted data.
- PGP-Encrypted e-mail. PGP or Pretty Good Privacy is the
oldest privacy authentication software on the internet. Trusted by millions it
encrypts e-mails sent from your shop to your buyers (and you) so that only the
sender and the recipient can read them. There is, in other words, virtually no
chance of e-mails being intercepted thus making privacy rock solid.
- Real time security notifications. If your online shop
detects that someone is trying to gain access to a protected area without the
proper permission it will e-mail you notifying you of the attempt. You can then
log into your store and block the user from reaching your shop via the built-in
"Block IP" module.
- Back up sub system. Keeping regular backups of your
customer data, orders, etc should be regular practice for any self respecting
online outfit. With our e-commerce solution, your job is made easy by offering
you "one click" backups of all of your data.
